The ultimate source of local information

Drawing on a wide range of resources, the Library's Local history collection provides a valuable source of information on the history and development of the Illawarra from 1799 to the present.

The collection includes an extensive range of books, over 17,000 images, more than 500 maps, local newspapers from 1856 onwards and more than 1,000 manuscripts.

The Local Studies Library collects and preserves Wollongong's history so that it is available to current and future researchers. If you're researching early settlers, land grants, heroes and villains or flora and fauna then visit Local Studies.

The Local Studies Library is an invaluable resource for:

  • Family historians
  • Job seekers
  • Historical researchers
  • Local community groups
