Is it OK to talk in the Library?

It’s OK to talk in the Library. Consider others when you are having a conversation or are on your phone and move away from others.

Is the Library always a quiet space?
The Library is a vibrant community space and at times may be noisy.
 
Can I eat in the Library?
Cold snack foods and non-alcoholic drinks in covered cups or bottles are allowed in designated areas of the Library.


Can I bring an animal into the Library?

Animals, other than those registered  to assist people with disabilities, designated companion animals, or involved in official Library programs are not allowed in the Library. The owner is to verify the animal is registered for this purpose.

Can I drink alcohol or take drugs in the Library?
Customers cannot be under the influence of, use or sell alcohol or any illegal substance while in the Library. Under certain circumstances, alcohol may be served/consumed at authorised events for adults in the Library.

Can I leave my personal belongings in the Library?
Customers are responsible for their personal belongings and cannot leave personal items unattended. Any items left unattended will be removed by Library or security staff. The Library is not liable for loss or damage to personal property.

How should I dress to come to the Library?
Acceptable levels of dress and personal hygiene are required. Footwear must be worn. If the condition or dress of a Library customer is likely to give offence to other customers of the Library you may be asked to leave.

 
What is considered unacceptable behaviour in the Library?

Unacceptable behaviour includes but is not limited to:
X Unsociable behaviour, including harassing or threatening others
X Verbal or physical aggression, abuse and intimidation
X Making unreasonable demands of staff
X Using drugs or alcohol or being affected by drugs or alcohol
X Smoking
X Exceeding reasonable levels of noise
X Talking on your phone, personal device or computer without being considerate of   others
X Engaging in activities which lessen the comfort and positive experience of others
X Soliciting or selling goods or services
X Damaging Library items, equipment, furniture and facilities
X Theft, vandalism, carrying a weapon and other criminal offences will be reported to NSW Police

 

Can I bring my bike, scooter or skateboard into the Library?
There are bike racks outside the Library. Please lock you bike in the rack before you come into the Library. Skateboards and folded scooters can be carried but not ridden in the Library.
 
Can I smoke in the Library?

All libraries are smoke free zones. Smoking is not permitted within 4 metres of the entrance of Council buildings.

Can I leave my child in the Library?
Children under 8 must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times they are in the Library.

Can I join the Library?
Yes and it’s free! To join the Library you need to bring in 100 points of identification and agree to the terms and conditions of using the Library. Children under the age of 16 need a guarantor for membership.


Which Libraries can I use with my Library card?
Your Library card gives you access to all seven Wollongong City Libraries. We have Libraries in Corrimal, Dapto, Helensburgh, Thirroul, Unanderra, Warrawong and Wollongong.

Can I borrow if I don’t have my Library card with me?
Yes, you can borrow items and use Library facilities without your Library card if you have other ID you can show us.

Can I let someone else use my Library card?
Your Library card is for your use only.

How long can I keep the items I borrow?
The borrowing period is four weeks for most Library items. Some collections including Fast Backs, HSC, eBooks and eAudiobooks have a shorter loan period.

Can I renew items I have borrowed?
Yes, you can renew multiple times. If there is a reservation on an item, you will not be able to renew.
 
Can I reserve items?
Yes, you can place a reservation on any item that is available for loan. Reservations are free.
 
Can I return items to the Library after hours?
Yes. Each of our Libraries has an after-hours returns chutes. Chutes are open year round except for public holidays. Items you have loaned can be returned to any of our branches.
 
If I return my items late, will there be a fee?
Late items attract an overdue fee. You can avoid fees by renewing or returning your items on or before the due date.
 
Can I take professional photographs or filming in the Library?
Prior to taking professional photographs or filming in the Library, you will need written permission from the Library Manager.
 
Can I use the Internet at the Library?
Yes, computers are available for use by Library members. If you are not a member of the Library, you will need to join to access Library technologies. If you are a short-term visitor to the area, guest passes are available if you have suitable identification. All users of Library technologies must agree to and abide by the Internet Conditions of Use.  Free Wi-Fi is available for use with your own device.
 
 
Does the Library have bookable study rooms?
Study rooms are available for individual and group study at Corrimal, Dapto, Thirroul and Wollongong Libraries. Library members can book a study room for a maximum of 2 hours per day per group. No fees apply for the use of study rooms.
 
Can I hold a meeting in the Library?
Library spaces and study rooms cannot be used for meetings, paid tutoring or commercial use. Meeting rooms are available for hire at a range of Council facilities. See staff for details or check the Council website
 
Does the Library have any book clubs?
The Library hosts a number of book clubs. Check out Page Turners for details 
 
Are community-based book clubs included on the Library’s “Page Turners” webpage?
The Library loves to support community book clubs. If you run a book club and want to attract new members contact the Library about adding your club to our page.
