Wollongong City Libraries is committed to providing a welcoming, comfortable and safe environment for library customers. This code outlines the conduct we expect from customers in accordance with the Library Regulation 2010. Customers who breach the code may be denied access to library services, risk being banned for a period of up to 12 months and may be referred to law enforcement officers. If you have a question, comment or complaint about this Code of Conduct or its application please write to the Library Manager.
Alcohol & Drugs
Customers shall not be under the influence of, use or sell alcohol or any illegal substance while in the library.
Animals, other than those used to assist people with disabilities, are not allowed in the libraries.
If the condition or dress of a library customer is likely to give offence to other customers of the library they may be asked to leave.
Unsociable behaviour, including harassing or threatening customers or staff is unacceptable. Such behaviour includes but is not limited to, aggression, abuse or intimidation. Customers will treat staff and other library users with respect and courtesy. Customers shall not interfere with a library employee’s performance of his/her duties. Disruptive behaviour of any kind that creates an unpleasant or unhealthy environment, including excessive noise is not acceptable. Customers shall avoid activities which lessen the comfort and positive experience of others. Be aware that
it is unsafe to run inside the library.
Bicycles, scooters, blades and skateboards
Bicycles, scooters, blades and skateboards may not be used in the libraries. Bicycles are to be placed in the racks provided outside.
Damage to library items, equipment, furniture and facilities
Any behaviour which damages library equipment, furniture and facilities including cutting, tearing or defacing library items will attract charges.
Snack foods and drinks are allowed in designated areas of the library. Hot food cannot be eaten in the library.
All library customers must agree to abide by the policies and procedures of the library. Library cards are not transferable and may not be used by others. Library items must be returned or renewed by the due date or fines will apply.
Library items must not be removed from the library without being checked out. Customers are responsible for any loss or damage incurred to library items.
Customers are responsible for their personal property at all times, and should never leave personal belongings unattended. The Library is not liable for loss or damage to personal property. Library staff have the right to inspect equipment, folders, bags or property as customers enter or leave the library.
Written permission must be granted by the Library Manager prior to photography and filming taking place in the library.
All libraries are smoke free zones.
Supervision of children
Parents are responsible for the suitability of the information their children access through the library. Parents are responsible for the behaviour of their children in the library.
Vacating the library
Library customers must leave the library when requested at closing time, during emergency situations or as directed by library staff or security personnel.
