The Wollongong City Library operates through a Central Library, seven Branch Libraries and two Mobile Libraries

Library membership, borrowing regulations and fees

Membership of the Wollongong Library Service is available to all residents of the City of Wollongong and non-residents who are members of other New South Wales public libraries or are visitors to the City.

Customers need to register with the library to borrow books and other items such as music CDs and DVDs.

Applications for membership are approved subject to suitable identification displaying signature, name and current address. (eg drivers licence and rates notice).

Customers under the age of 18 years require the signature of a guarantor.

Non-residents of the City of Wollongong who are members of another public library in NSW are eligible to join Wollongong City Library free of charge under the reciprocal borrowing arrangement that exists for most NSW public libraries. A current Library card and identification must be produced at the time of application.

Non-residents working or studying in the City can join Wollongong City Library free of charge for a renewable twelve month membership period. Where appropriate, student identification must accompany the application.

A non-resident who is not a member of another public library and does not work or study in Wollongong is welcome to register as a library borrower subject to the payment of:

  • an Annual fee of $50.00
  • a Visitor deposit of $50.00 (if staying less than 3 Months)

Loan Period

A total of 16 items per customer may be borrowed for 4 weeks (28 days)

Overdue Fees

  • Adults - $0.30 per item per day (maximum fee $6.00 per item)
  • Children/Young Adults (under 18 yearsof age) - $0.10 per item per day (maximum fee $3.00 per item)

Lost or damaged items

Lost/damaged book, magazine, etc

  • Items less than 3 years old - Purchase price plus processing charge
  • Items 4-6 years old - 75% of purchase price plus processing charge
  • Items more than 6 years old - 50% of purchase price plus processing charge

Replacement of borrower's ticket

  • Individual (no concessions) - $2.00
  • Family tickets (maximum charge) - $5.00

Reservations

  • A $1.50 charge applies to each fiction or non-fiction item reserved (no concessions)
  • Items can be placed on hold in the library or over the Web using the library catalogue.
  • Borrowers will be advised when the item is available for loan

Display & Exhibition facilities

The Wollongong Central Library and District Libraries at Dapto, Corrimal and Warrawong have display facilities available for community organisations. Conditions of use apply.
