The Blue Mile Masterplan

The Blue Mile Master Plan, developed in consultation with local residents, proposes a range of foreshore improvements to the stretch of harbour between Stuart Park and the Wollongong Golf Club.

Council will build promenades, upgrade walkways and cycleways, install park furniture, lighting and playgrounds. For more information see our multimedia presentation.

Cliff Road Improvements

Improvement works along Cliff Road are due to commence late August with Council now finalising the contract of works with the successful tenderer.

The proposed works will involve the demolition of the current footpath and the construction of a wider footpath along Cliff Road as well as a new viewing platform. 

The construction works will require the complete closure of the eastern Cliff Road footpath from where the shared pathway splits near Belmore Basin up to the pedestrian crossing near the intersection with George Street.  This area will be a designated work site with construction fence enclosing the site.  Throughout this time, parking on the eastern side of Cliff Road will also be reduced.

Council anticipates that Cliff Road will remain a two way road with water barriers along the eastern side to provide a buffer between the works and traffic.  It should be noted that residents and tourists will still have access to the lower shared pathway throughout most of the works. 

Council will be providing an opportunity for members of the community to talk to the Cliff Road project team about the plans.  Please find details below:

Weather permitting; Council anticipates completion of the majority of the works prior to the Christmas break.  If the contractor is unable to complete the works before mid December works will cease over the school holidays to minimize the impact on the community.  Works will then recommence at the end of January 2010.
