Planning
Our city strategies
As part of our planning role, Council develops plans and strategies to set the framework for future development in our local government area.
Documents prepared through our City Planning division include Local Environmental Plans (LEPs) which guide planning decisions and establish the requirements for the use and development of land.
They also include Development Control Plans (DCPs) which provide specific, more comprehensive guidelines for certain types of development.
City Planning also initiates many planning studies to investigate different aspects of a project, for example traffic movement or potential flooding.
Wollongong has experienced a period of unprecedented growth, many major planning projects and strategies are in development or coming to fruition. These include finalisation of a new city-wide Local Environmental Plan for the Wollongong local government area, a key strategy for revitalisation of the Wollongong City Centre, and plans for a significant land release at West Dapto.
At various times we also place draft plans and strategies on public exhibition and seek the community’s feedback via our 'Have your say' page.
