Dapto town centre strategy

In 2003 we began preparing the Dapto Town Centre Revitalisation Study. The study is important to:

  • enhance Dapto’s role as the major retail and commercial area on the western side of Lake Illawarra;
  • clarify Dapto’s relationship with the proposed urban development in the West Dapto Release Area, which may result in an additional 10-15,000 dwellings;
  • respond to pressures for urban renewal and development within the centre;
  • make use of public transport opportunities provided by Dapto Rail station;
  • guide development proposal for Dapto Mall and the former Dapto Public School site;
  • improve the appearance of the centre and the safety of residents and visitors;
  • address traffic issues in and around the Town centre.

Council engaged two consultants to prepare the study/strategy and undertake community consultation.

  • Civitas Partnerships - urban design issues;
  • Eppell Olsen & Partners - traffic and transport issues.

We held four community workshops in 2004-05 and a fourth workshop for social service providers. A summary of the issues raised at these workshops in the Draft Master Plan report located on the right side of this page.

The exhibition and submission time for this project has closed. All submissions will be summarised and reported to Council.
