Planning and development
Development assessment
What is a development?
- land usage;
- subdivision of land;
- erection of a building;
- any work or renovation;
- demolition of a building or work;
- certain activities including places of public entertainment.
Are you carrying out a development?
Chances are you may need to apply for a Development Application (DA).
Before preparing a DA you should contact the Customer Service Centre to:
- check whether the proposed development is permissible;
- check whether a DA is required;
- check how the city's planning instruments – plans, codes, controls and policies - affect the proposed development;
- obtain copies of the information necessary to submit a DA, including the DA form and the relevant planning instruments;
- obtain advice on the required DA fees.
Follow the links on the side of the page to find out:
- all you need to know about lodging your DA and the DA process;
- information on lodging a Construction Certificate which is necessary before any building work commences;
- the planning policies which govern the rules of developments in the city;
- details about subdivisions;
- a range of forms you can download;
- the city’s zoning, heritage and flood maps;
- the latest DA proposals and approvals;
- a history of developments in the city.
