What is RSS?

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. RSS is an easy way to receive updates and news from websites. RSS feeds provide web content or summaries of web content together with links to the full versions of the content via an email.

RSS allows you to see when sites you are interested in from all over the Internet have added new content. You can get the latest headlines and articles (or even audio files, photographs or video) in one place, as soon as they are published, without having to remember to visit each site every day.

How do I use RSS?

Wollongong City Council’s RSS feeds are available from the addresses listed above and can be read in a program called a newsreader or aggregator.

There are a range of different newsreaders available and new versions are appearing all the time. Different newsreaders work on different operating systems, so you will need to choose one that will work with your computer.

Once you have downloaded and installed a reader via the links below, follow its instructions for adding new channels.

Please make sure that your reader is configured to look for updates no more frequently than every two hours as our website updates once or twice a day.

Using WCC’s RSS Feeds on your website

If you run your own website, you can use RSS feeds to display the latest headlines from other websites on your site. We encourage the use of Wollongong City Council’s RSS feeds as part of a website. Please contact us at websitefeedback@wollongong.nsw.gov.au if you would like to display Wollongong City Council RSS feeds on your website.

We do require that the proper format and attribution is used when Wollongong City Council content appears. The attribution text should read "Wollongong City Council" or "From the Wollongong City Council" as appropriate, and provide a link back to the Wollongong City Council homepage. We also require that you preserve feed item links back to the Council's website.

While care is taken to ensure accuracy, the Wollongong City Council cannot guarantee that information contained in RSS feeds is correct and recommends that users exercise their own skill and care with respect to its use. We reserve the right to modify or discontinue this service at any time.

You may not use the Wollongong City Council logo for any other purpose.
