A Viva la Gong event
Wednesday 28 September from 6pm
Hideaway Café, Church Street Wollongong
We're calling for expressions of interest to be part of this night of ideas, submissions close Monday 12 September.
Are you full of new ideas? Are you looking for a supportive and creative environment to test them out?
Pecha Kucha - a night for artists, writers, performers, designers, social entrepreneurs, scientists (in fact, anyone!) to pitch their ideas to an audience in a fast PowerPoint presentation format.
About Pecha Kucha
Pecha Kucha (Japanese for the ‘sound of conversation’) is a fun and fast way to ‘pitch’ interesting ideas in a format of 20 slides / 20 seconds per slide for a total of 6 minutes and 40 seconds. Presentations are short, concise and inspirational. Pronounced ‘peh-cha ku-cha’ it was originally founded by Klein Dytham Architects (KDA) in Tokyo in 2003, as a way for young designers to meet, network and show their work in public.
While this approach does require considerable discipline and practice it is a powerful approach to presentations and a forum where creative work can be easily and informally shown.
Instructions for Pecha-Kucha
1. Use PowerPoint to build 20 slides
2. Set the timing for each slide for 20 seconds
3. Use only simple words, or even better no text (the audience won’t have time to read it) and images on each slide
4. Use the slides as a storyboard
5. Each slide is only on the screen for 20 seconds so practice before your presentation.
To Apply
- Submit your name and contact details, including phone number
- Your occupation
- 100 words about the idea you plan to pitch
- 2-3 x images or photographs relating to your presentation, or, examples of your previous work (as jpg files on CD or printed images)
