Health & Safety

There are a large number of health and safety regulations associated with running a business.

The following businesses are required to be registered with Wollongong City Council: 

  • accommodation facilities
  • food premises
  • hairdressing salons and skin penetration premises
  • home businesses
  • street trading and markets
  • mortuaries
  • all buildings which contain water cooling systems
  • any place with a public swimming pool or spa pool.

Event organisers are also required to follow a few regulations as outlined below.

Council investigates complaints associated with health and safety risks, such as vermin and smoking in public places. 

Accommodation Facilities

Information on regulation of caravan parks and camping areas and, bed & breakfast accommodation premises.

Food Premises

If you require a copy of the Food Safety Standards you can get a copy from the Food Standards Australia New Zealand website at www.foodstandards.gov.au

Cleaning and sanitising requirements are in Standard 3.2.2.
