Graffiti Management

Print this Page

Council recognises that rapidly removing graffiti is an important step in preventing graffiti. In response to this Council has adopted a Graffiti Prevention Management Plan to address this widespread social issue.

Our plan provides:

  • a phone line to report graffiti (Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm)
  • advice on the removal and prevention of graffiti
  • graffiti removal wipes for self removal
  • a removal/paint-over service for residents and business operators
  • graffiti audits in affected areas
  • coordination of appropriate action in areas identified as ‘hot spots’
  • coordination and implementation of legal art opportunities

All graffiti should be reported to Council and the Police. This includes graffiti on Council and non-Council buildings and property. When contacting Council be sure to note whether the graffiti is on private or Council land, or public property.

Removing Graffiti

If you come across graffiti you can try and remove it yourself. When using removal products we recommend:

  • trying household cleaning products such as dishwashing or laundry liquid, eucalyptus oil or mineral turpentine first
  • following the manufacturer's directions and safety instructions
  • test the product on a small area first
  • be careful as some products are toxic and require caution
