Launch of The Migration Project 2015 by artist Nerine Martini. Part of our Public Art Program

Wollongong is a city of diversity. Council values this diversity, and recognises it is a source of strength and prosperity. We're committed to serving our multiple community, which is reflected in our Wollongong 2022 Community Strategic Plan goals:

  • Strong diverse local cultures thrive in the suburbs
  • The visibility of our cultural diversity is increased
  • Residents have easy and equitable access to information resources and services.

Council engages with our many diverse communities and organisations to identify how we can deliver our services in a fair, inclusive and accessible way. We also promote the city's diversity through a range of festivals, events and programs.

We work with communities and organisations to identify emerging issues and the needs of our diverse community, and recommend appropriate actions and responses.

DiverCITY exhibition

Wollongong's history is steeped in stories of migration. The DiverCITY panel exhibition was part of our 2017 Australia Day event, and provided a snapshot of Wollongong's diversity. You can read more and view the panels below.
