Wollongong is a culturally and linguistically diverse city. The major community languages are Macedonian, Italian, Greek, Spanish and Arabic.
We are committed to serving our multicultural community and promoting inclusiveness and the celebration of cultural diversity in the broader community.
Interpreter Service
We provide on-site, face-to-face interpreting for public, community and private sector agencies for case work, client assessment, community consultations, conferences, counselling, group information sessions, home visits, international delegations, interviews and public meetings.
Interpreters for over 32 languages are available.
We are committed to confidentiality, accuracy and impartiality.
Cost: $147 per 1.5 hour booking
You can book an interpreter between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday by calling Council on 4227 7650 or emailing interpreters@wollongong.nsw.gov.au
For translations, we may be able to refer you to local accredited translators or contact NSW Community Relations Commission.
Language Aide Service
Our language aide officers are available to assist residents who have difficulty communicating in English and are seeking information about Council services. The following languages are available:
- Greek
- Italian
- Macedonian
- Polish
- Serbian
- Spanish
- Turkish.
Bookings for Language Aide officers can be made through our Customer Service Centre.
For languages not listed, we will use the Telephone Interpreter Service.
