If you are planning on renovations, you must think asbestos
This material was widely used in the construction industry during the 1950’s until the mid 1980’s. If your house was built or renovated during this period, it is likely you have asbestos in your home.
It’s worth knowing what asbestos is and what precautions you should take if you are planning to renovate or make repairs around your home just in case you are dealing with asbestos.
Asbestos Not Accepted at Council Waste Depots
It is important to note that asbestos material is not accepted at Whytes Gully or Helensburgh waste depots. There are no approved sites for asbestos disposal within the Wollongong region. Asbestos must be taken to a licensed facility.
It is illegal to dispose of asbestos in a domestic garbage bin or to dump asbestos.
If you believe you have a need to manage or dispose of asbestos, we recommend you contact a licensed asbestos removal company or consult with the relevant Government agencies for advice relating to identification of asbestos and approved methods for its safe removal, containment, transportation and disposal.
