Events Guidelines for Waste Management

Council encourages event organisers to increase resource recovery and practice waste minimisation at public events in the Wollongong Local Government Area.

Event organisers are invited to prepare and submit a waste management plan with the application to hold an event.

Giant Car Boot Sale

Come and join in the fun of our Community Garage Sale

Saturday 23 June
9am - 2pm
Cliff Parade, Southern Car Park, Thirroul Beach
 
Be quick to register your interest with Wollongong City Council for a free spot at the Giant Car Boot sale. This is a great opportunity to sell or trade unwanted and pre-loved items from around the home. Have some fun and earn extra cash while you Reuse, Repair and Recycle.

School Competitions

Compost Creatures Diary Competition - Over $1000 of cash and prizes were up for grabs
 
There were two separate age categories for primary and infant students. Each student was invited to submit a compost creature's diary based on the creatures that live in a real or imaginary compost heap. Students were encouraged to -
* make at least four diary entries
* ask what are the creatures doing in the compost heap?
* who eats what?
* how do they get along?
* does one creature like moisture, and another like it dry?
 
The winners of this competition are -
 
Primary Division
First Prize - Amelia from Corrimal Public School

Amelia has won for her school $400 to put towards a waste wise initiative and some great education resources in 'In the Bin' and 'Worms - the mechanics of organics' books by Kellie Bollard.
 
 
Second Prize - Celeste from Stanwell Park Public School

 School Holiday Program at Botanic Garden

Happy Scrappy Fun

From the 16 – 20 April Wollongong Botanic Garden is all about turning trash into treasure.

Children attending the holiday school program will take part in a treasure hunt, create recycled crafts and enjoy the show Ziggy's Incredible Recycled Time Machine. It’s all happening daily from 10am to 1pm.
