Bushcare volunteers are active on 50 sites across Wollongong, restoring native vegetation on coastal dunes, headlands, escarpment ridges, rainforest gullies and creek lines throughout the area.
In addition to the conservation of our native flora and fauna, Bushcare helps create closer ties within a community and improves amenity value for residents.
Bushcare offers free environmental workshops and events, as well as regular on ground training and supervision. All Wollongong residents are welcome to attend any group meeting or Bushcare event.
Volunteers learn about environmental weeds and the best strategies for their successful removal. Each year around 30,000 native species are planted by Bushcare volunteers. New volunteers are welcome at all Bushcare events.
Group meeting times vary. Some groups meet for two hours every week, some meet once a month at the weekend, while others are more irregular. To ensure safety and comfort, please wear long sleeves and trousers, strong shoes and a hat. All tools and equipment are provided.
