Kully Bay Catchment

Print this Page
Catchment Area: Warrawong

The largely urbanised 150 Ha Kully Bay Catchment drains residential and commercial land in Warrawong and Port Kembla.

Major drainage throughout the catchment is through piped drains and overland flow.

There are no formal channels upstream of Northcliffe Drive. South of Northcliffe Drive, the catchment enters Lake Illawarra through a series of constructed channels and a wetland constructed on reclaimed land adjacent to Kully Bay Oval.

A flood study of the Kully Bay Catchment has not previously been completed by Council as part of a floodplain risk management process.

Progress of the Study:

  • In December 2017 Council engaged a consultant to prepare a flood study for the Kully Bay Catchment. The flood study will be used to define the flood behaviour in the catchment, identify risk and inform planning decisions. The flood study is expected to be completed by March 2019.

  • The flood study will also inform a future Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan.
