Celebrate Native Gardening in the Illawarra
Come down to Wollongong's Old Courthouse on Wednesday 23 November 2011 from 2.30pm onwards to find out how about native gardening in your neighbourhood.
Free copies of the Grow Local gardening guide will be available. There will also be exciting stalls, information displays and interactive workshops on native gardening in the Illawarra.

Here in the Illawarra we are not only blessed with spectacular natural ecosystems, but also have a fantastic climate for growing a huge range of fresh food. Two of the best ways to contribute to our community's future are to support local biodiversity, and to make more sustainable choices about the food we eat.
Grow Local is all about supporting and building our local communities. It's about making the most of our backyards as havens for wildlife, and as spaces to grow some of our own food.

Growing food for your family is easy, fun, and has enormous benefit beyond your own backyard.You'll reduce dependence on imported food and transport, be eating fresher, healthier food, you can save time and money, and help keep delicious traditional varieties of fruits and vegetables alive.
Growing local native plants helps create stepping stones of habitats across our urban landscape for our native birds and other fauna to move, feed and shelter. It supports the work that Council does in our urban parks to manage and enhance our biodiversity.
Biodiversity doesn't just belong in our bushland, and Food doesn't just belong in the supermarkets- we can bring it right into our own backyards. By making the most of our backyards, balconies and other spaces for growing our own local food and biodiversity, we can contribute to a more sustainable future for the Illawarra.
