Easter eggs-perience brings carnival fun and augmented art to the Mall

The Easter bunny has been busy here in Wollongong. To celebrate Easter this weekend, we’ve installed interactive Easter themed artworks at six different locations throughout Crown Street Mall.

Follow the bunny trail to watch the Easter artworks come to life through the wonders of augmented reality. To enjoy this interactive Easter eggs-perience, all you need is your smartphone.

If that’s not enough, Council is also working with Wollongong Central to bring extra fun for local families this Easter with Showtime in the City. From Saturday 10 April to Wednesday 14 April, visitors to Crown Street Mall and Wollongong Central will be able to enjoy outdoor carnival rides and a DJ on the Mall stage, roving entertainers, a farmyard animal nursery, face painting and balloon bending.

“Council is committed to supporting our local businesses, and art displays and activations such as these are simple ways we can add colour, excitement and fun to the Mall,” Wollongong City Council Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said.

“Augmented reality art is something Council hasn’t experimented with before and we’re keen to test out this new technology in a fun and safe setting.”

The Easter-themed interactive artworks will be installed on six shopfronts throughout the Crown Street Mall from 27 March to 18 April. To enjoy the artwork, scan the QR code at each location to download the Eyejack app to your smartphone. Once downloaded, simply hold your phone in front of each artwork to watch it come to life.

Once you’ve found and watched all six artworks, you can then hop into a participating retailer to collect your chocolate egg reward. Easter eggs are available while stock last.

Golden Easter Egg Hunt

When: 27 March – 18 April. Although the artwork can be viewed any time of day, the chocolate egg rewards are only available during business hours at participating retailers.

Where: Crown Street Mall – there are six locations throughout the Mall. Look for the bunny feet on the ground!

When: 10am – 3pm daily, Saturday 10 – Wednesday 14 April.

Cost: Receive one free ride ticket for every $5 spent in a participating Crown Street Mall or Wollongong Central retailer.
