Until 2010, this catchment was grouped with the Brooks Creek catchment.

The Southern Area Floodplain Committee provides advice to Council about issues in the Mullet Creek Catchment area.

A Flood Study and Floodplain Risk Management Plan for Mullet and Brooks Creek were completed in 2010. In 2011 we extended the Mullet Creek Flood Model.

The Mullet Creek flood model update report was completed in 2018.

More recently, a Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan for the Mullet Creek catchment has been completed and adopted by Council in May 2023.

The Mullet Creek Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan was prepared in accordance with the NSW Government’s Floodplain Development Manual and the Australian Rainfall and Runoff 2019 guidelines. It includes a review of the 2010 Mullet and Brooks Creek Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan.

The Mullet Creek Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan was jointly funded by Council and the NSW Government.

You can read the latest study and older studies about this catchment in the Documents section of this page.

There are currently no works in this catchment relating to the adopted Mullet Creek Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan.

However, works are currently underway or in the planning stages for West Dapto. You can read more about current and planned works on our project page.

Kanahooka Road drainage improvements

A flap gate has been installed on a pipe below Kanahooka Road, south of the roundabout in 2021. Minor drainage works were also undertaken to reduce flooding of nearby dwellings.

Channel lining works are also being proposed on the northern side of the roundabout to reduce channel blockages and assist with maintenance. This work is expected to begin in the financial year of 2023/2024.

Fowlers Road to Fairwater Drive

Karrara Bridge at Fowlers Road opened to motorists, pedestrians and cyclists on 28 April 2020. It provides new flood-reliable access between Dapto and West Dapto and eases congestion through Dapto Town Centre by reducing traffic on Bong Bong Road.

You can read more about past works on our project page.

Voluntary Purchase

We have bought many high flood risk properties in this catchment since the early 1990s. Most of these properties have been in Burringbar Street.
