Creating Connections - High School Grants

Council's Youth Services team is providing small grants to Student Representative Councils (SRCs) who want to make a positive impact for students at their high school during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Grants of up to $250 per school are available to support activities that make new connections / relationships, build resilience or improve young people's mental health.

Applications for this program have now closed. We'll be in touch with everyone who applied soon.

We're keen to hear your ideas for a Creating Connections Project.

If you're looking for ideas, here are some things to get your brainstorming started:

  • Buy merch and run an RUOK campaign
  • Tree planting day
  • Start a pen-pal program
  • Start and environment group
  • Mental health campaign on social media
  • Start a jump rope club
  • Hire a guest speaker to provide a motivation talk online.

We're happy to chat to you about your ideas before you apply. Our Youth Development Workers can help you develop your ideas and complete your application.

Email us or call (02) 4227 8222 for help.

Applications will be reviewed by a panel.

All applications that meet the requirements below will receive funding up to $250.

  • Submitted by an SRC from a high school in the Wollongong Local Government Area.
  • Is a new idea - not something already happening at your school.
  • Your project will either build new relationships, build resilience, or improve mental health for students at your school.
  • The project will be delivered before 30 June 2022.
  • Your school is supportive of the project.

If your application is successful, your school will be asked to sign an agreement and provide a tax invoice to Council.

We'll send the funds to your school by electronic funds transfer (EFT) or as a cheque.

Once you've spent the grant funds and held your activity, you'll need to fill in a one-page form (we'll send this to you) to tell us what you did, and how many people were involved. We'd also love to see photos!
