The Towri Bush Tucker Garden was named by the Traditional Custodians of the land. Its name means ‘learning place bounded by flowers and trees’.
The Towri Bush Tucker Garden and Towri Centre are spaces for people to learn about the use of plants for food, medicine and shelter in Aboriginal culture.
Plants in this collection are mostly native to the Illawarra, and would have been used by Aboriginal people living in this area.
This garden also provides habitat for a native animals such as Eastern Water Dragons, echidnas, and birds like the Kookaburra and Buff Banded Rails, to name just a few.
The Towri Bush Tucker Garden was opened in July 2012 as part of NAIDOC Week celebrations.

Location
The nearest entry point for the Towri Bush Tucker Garden is Northfields Avenue, and is just a short walk from our administration centre. Limited street parking is available. 15 minute restricted parking is available at the Administration Centre Monday to Friday.
