Community connections fostered through events
A few drops of rain didn’t dampen spirts at the Keira Laneway Live event on Sunday.
What a fantastic time I had listening to the live music, and enjoying a bite to eat from some of the local restaurants who got behind the event.

Keira Laneways Live was delivered by Council under the NSW Government’s Vibrant Streets Package, which is all about community-friendly activities that allow people to connect with their fellow residents and experience public streets as a social space.
What I saw on Sunday were locals soaking up a very positive vibe and getting behind local businesses. It was a really wonderful event and I look forward to seeing Council continue to deliver terrific community-focused events across 2026.

On the subject of events, another fantastic activity that was very well supported by our community over the weekend was Sunday’s Household Chemical Cleanout.
It’s always a popular activity for people looking to dispose of common household chemical challenges and it’s estimated that about 30 tonnes of hazardous waste was collected on the day at JJ Kelly Park.
Thank you to those 800-plus people who did the right thing to get rid of unwanted household chemicals. Your efforts are appreciated by your community and the environment.
If you couldn’t make the NSW EPA-supported event, you can still dispose of paint and oils, along with cardboard, e-waste, polystyrene and scrap metal, at the Community Recycling Centre at Whyte’s Gully. It’s also likely another event will be held later this year around spring so I recommend keeping an eye on Council’s social media for updates.
