Children's Choice Terms and Conditions

Below are the conditions that you should read and agree to before entering our Children's Choice competition for Book Week 2020.

  1. You are invited to vote for your favourite book in one or more of the following categories:
    1. Picture Book of the Year
    2. Book of the Year: Early Childhood
    3. Book of the Year: Younger Readers
    4. Book of the Year: Older Readers
    5. Eve Pownall Award
    6. CBCA Award for New Illustrator.

  2. By submitting an Entry, you will automatically be entered into a draw (‘the Draw’) to win one of three Book Week Prize Pack bundles. Each Prize Pack bundle contains:
    1. a Book Week Prize Pack for you (‘Your Prize Pack’; and
    2. an identical Book Week Prize Pack for your nominated pre-school, day-care or school (‘the Identical Prize Pack’). Note: Home School students may nominate another Home School student to receive the identical Book Week Prize Pack.
  3. Your Entry must comply with these Terms and Conditions to be valid.
  4. Information on how to enter, prize details and other written information provided by Wollongong City Council (‘Council’) in relation to the Draw form part of these Terms and Conditions.
  5. By submitting an Entry:
    1. you agree to be bound by the Terms and Conditions; and
    2. [if you are the Winner of the Draw] you:
      1. agree to participate and co-operate as required in all editorial and media/PR activities relating to the Draw, including but not limited to being interviewed and photographed; and
      2. authorise Council to use such footage and photographs together with your name, voice, image and likeness for advertising and/or publicity purposes in any media in perpetuity worldwide without additional compensation.
  6. In the event of any dispute regarding the Terms and Conditions, or any other matter relating to the Draw, the decision of Council will be final. No correspondence will be entered into by Council in relation to the Draw.
  1. The Draw is open to those who:
    1. are aged 3 to 18 years; and
    2. reside within Wollongong Local Government Area (LGA).
  2. If you are under 18 years of age, you must have parental/guardian approval to participate. Your parent/guardian must read and consent to these Terms and Conditions.
  3. Council employees and their immediate family and household members are not eligible to participate. Immediate family means any of the following: husband / wife / partner, child or step-child (whether natural or by adoption), parent, step-parent, grandparent, step-grandparent, uncle, aunt, brother, sister, step-brother, step-sister.
  1. Voting opens at 10.00am (AEST) on 31 August 2020 and closes at 5.00pm (AEST) on 18 October 2020 (‘Competition Period’).
  2. Voting is online via Wollongong City Libraries' website.
  3. You may choose to vote for one book:
    1. in a single category or
    2. in more than one category.
      (‘an Entry’).
  4. You may only submit one Entry.
  5. All valid Entries submitted during the Competition Period will be entered into the Draw.
  6. Your Entry will be deemed invalid if any of the following apply:
    1. it does not comply with these Terms and Conditions, or
    2. it is incomplete or indecipherable.
  7. Council reserves the right, at any time, to verify your details (including your identity and residency status).
  8. If your details change during the Competition Period, you are responsible for notifying Council. A request to access or modify any information provided in an entry should be directed to Council’s Manager Library and Community Services.
  9. There is no cost to enter the Draw.
  10. You may nominate which Prize Pack Bundle you would like to win.
  1. The Draw will take place at 1pm on 19 October 2020 at Council’s Administration Building located at 41 Burelli Street, Wollongong NSW 2500.
  2. The winning Entries will be randomly selected from all valid Entries in the Draw. The winner shall be the person who is identified by the first valid Entry drawn (‘the Winner’).
  3. The Winners will be announced on Wollongong City Libraries website on 19 October 2020 and, at Council’s discretion, on its social media channels. Council will notify the Winners by e-mail and/or telephone by 5.00pm on 19 October 2020 (‘the Notification’).
  4. Council’s decision in relation to any aspect of the Draw is final and binding and the Council will not enter into any correspondence regarding the result, including in the event of a dispute.
  1. Each Winner must contact Council within 7 days of the Notification to claim their Prize Pack and make arrangements to collect it (‘the Claim Period’). Your Prize Pack must be taken as stated, and is not transferable, exchangeable or redeemable for cash.
  2. You must collect Your Prize Pack from Council’s Administration Building within 28 days of the Notification (‘the Collection Period’). If a Winner is under the age of 18, they must be accompanied by their parent or guardian when collecting their Prize Pack.
  3. The Winners (or, if a Winner is under the age of 18, their parents or guardians) may be required to verify their identity and residency status at the time of collecting their Prize Pack.
  4. Council will post the Identical Prize Packs to the preschool, day-care, school or home school student nominated by the Winner.
  5. If You do not collect Your Prize Pack from Council within the Collection Period, Council reserves the right to offer it to a substitute Winner selected in accordance with these Terms and Conditions.
  6. Once the Prizes have left Council’s Administration Building, Council takes no responsibility for the Prizes being damaged, lost or stolen.
  1. Council may cancel or vary the Draw at any time. Council will not be responsible for any loss or costs you may incur in relation to such cancellation or variation.
  2. By entering the Draw, you release Council from, and indemnify Council against, all liability (including negligence), for any loss or damage or injury whatsoever which is suffered (including, but not limited to, indirect or consequential loss), or for any personal injury suffered or sustained in connection with the Draw, or the use of the Prize, except for any liability which cannot be excluded by law.

Privacy Protection Notice

  • Purpose of collection: Council will collect the personal information of individuals who vote for their favourite books during the Competition Period in order to be able to contact the Winners when the entry is drawn.
  • Intended recipients: Council staff.
  • Supply: While the supply of personal information is voluntary, the information provided will enable your participation in the Draw.
  • Access / Correction: Your personal information may be accessed by you and Council. A request to access, update or correct any information should be directed to Wollongong City Council.
  • Storage: The personal information collected will be stored by Council for the purposes indicated above. However, any personal information may be disclosed as required by law.
