Students challenged to build resilience at their school

Monday 23 August 2021

We’re offering grants of $250 to Student Representative Councils (SRCs) who have a great idea on how they can make a positive impact on students at their school during the COVID-19 pandemic.

From now until Friday 17 September we’re calling for students to submit their creative idea on how they could use $250 to organise an initiative that helps students make new relationships, build resilience or improve young people’s mental health.

Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said that mental health and wellbeing was a significant concern for all community members during the pandemic, especially young people.

“Young people in particular are at risk of experiencing mental health challenges due to the pandemic as many students who may have previously found relief at school, have now lost social support from friends and teachers,” Cr Bradbery said.

“We don’t know when Wollongong will come out of lockdown or how long students will likely be learning online. So, we’re asking students to think outside the box and submit a great idea that benefits their friends and other students. All ideas will be considered it just needs to comply with the current Public Health Orders.

“Here is a positive challenge to use your imagination and creativity to solve a problem with lasting benefits to our community. I know it is not a large sum, but that’s part of the challenge to apply limited resources for a big outcome.”
