Back in the swim at Bellambi Rock Pool

Friday 20 December 2019

Bellambi Rock Pool has reopened in time for Christmas following an extensive refurbishment.

The pool was closed to the public in May for the project to upgrade and refurbish the Bellambi Rock pool and its concourse. At the same time we reconstructed the seawall to the north of the pool.

Work wrapped up on the project yesterday in time for the pool to refill as the tide came in yesterday afternoon. Swimmers returned to the much-loved pool today.

Over the past six months there has been extensive work carried out at the pool, which is at least 40 years old. The ageing infrastructure’s walls were renewed and repaired, the access ramp was renewed and sections of the concourse were renewed. The viewing platform at the northern end of the pool was updated and boasts new seating. Plus, there were repairs to the pool floor and pool was given a bright coat of paint.

Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said the community would be pleased to see the popular pool reopened in time for Christmas.

“Tomorrow is forecast to be very hot conditions and I’m sure the reopening of this pool will be welcomed by the local community,’’ Cr Bradbery said.

“Bellambi Rock Pool is a beautiful and popular spot for a swim. And now that is has enjoyed this extensive refurbishment, it’s set to be the go-to swim spot for many years to come.’’
