Bulli Beach's new tourist cabins

Wednesday 18 December 2019

Bulli Beach Tourist Park has three new holiday cabins, thanks to the students at TAFE Illawarra.

The students built the cabins as part of their Certificate II Construction course, gaining practical experience as part of a long-term relationship between Council and TAFE Illawarra.

Over the past 15 years, TAFE students have built about 54 cabins for Council’s tourist parks at Windang, Bulli and Corrimal.

Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said Council was pleased to help the students gain practical skills while they in turn have provided excellent accommodation for the popular tourist parks in the city.

“This long-standing relationship between Council and TAFE Illawarra  continues to provide positive outcomes. The tourist park receive great holiday cabins, the students gain valuable hands-on skills and many then find work in their chosen profession,” Cr Bradbery AM said.

“The work and skills of the TAFE students are on show for the visitors that come to our tourist parks.  Both the students and Council staff involved in this project should be proud of what they have achieved.

TAFE NSW Team Leader of Construction Patrick Rawnsley said the project reflected the TAFE NSW ethos of “learning through doing”. “Projects like this equip our students with the practical, hands-on skills and work experience to ensure they are job-ready for the realities of working in the industry” Mr Rawnsley said.

“TAFE NSW maintains strong relationships with communities and employers to ensure that students are equipped with the skills and knowledge that employers need.”
