Wollongong’s rainbow crossing has been unveiled on Christmas eve, Tuesday 24 December.

The crossing was painted late Monday 23 December in the shared pedestrian zone on Cliff Road between the Novotel Wollongong North Beach and the beach.

The work follows a resolution of Council in July to install a permanent Rainbow Crossing in a prominent location in recognition of our city's diverse and inclusive community.

“We are a welcoming community and a group of people who celebrate difference,’’ Wollongong City Acting Lord Mayor Councillor Tania Brown said.

“This Rainbow Crossing is an acknowledgement that Wollongong is made up of many different people with many different backgrounds, cultures and interests but together we make our City a great – and colourful – place to live.’’

Following the painting of the crossing, Council staff will revisit the area early in 2020 to carry out further line marking maintenance and improvement works.

We are also looking at other locations where we can incorporate artistic crossings that celebrate our city’s cultural and social diversity.
