Public Gallery Reopens for Council Meetings

Friday 19 February 2021

Passionate Council watchers will be able to return to the Public Gallery for Council Meetings from Monday 22 February.

Council will reopen Public Gallery access after it was closed last year due to the coronavirus pandemic and while meetings were held virtually.

The Public Gallery will be limited to 20 people and those who wish to attend will need to reserve their seat before 4pm on the day of the meeting. Seats will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis.

While the Gallery has reopened, Council will continue to offer a live webcast of the meeting through our website.

“We have some very proactive members of our community who enjoy watching the Councillors debate and our decision-making processes in action. I am sure they will welcome the news that we’re reopening the Chamber on a limited basis at this time,’’ Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said.

“We’ve put mechanisms in place to ensure we’re able to welcome community members in the room in a COVID-safe way. Alternatively, people can continue to watch online.

“Our webcast has been running for a number of years and it’s a well-established way for people to see and hear the Council in action.’’

Monday night’s meeting, which starts from 6pm, has a number of items on the agenda including consideration of the North Wollongong Surf Life Saving Club Refurbishment and Seawall works tender, a Council’s Aboriginal Engagement Framework and Council’s draft submission into the inquiry into the development of a hydrogen industry in NSW. The full agenda is available on Council’s website.

To register attendance to the meeting, please call (02) 4227 7422 before 4pm on the day of the meeting, Monday 22 February 2021.
