Wollongong Youth Centre Reopens

Friday 17 July 2020

The doors of Wollongong Youth Centre will reopen on Monday 20 July with the reintroduction of targeted programs and service referrals to support our city’s young people.

The Youth Centre closed on 24 March as part of Council’s support of the Federal and State government’s social distancing measures, and in line with our focus on looking after the health, safety and wellbeing of our staff and volunteers, their families and our community.

As the Centre moves towards resuming normal operations, the programs on offer will meet social distancing, hygiene and contact tracing requirements. Bookings are essential for the program, and young people will be required to provide contact details in line with the NSW Public Health Order.

The skate ramps in the forecourt are available for people to use, as is the legal graffiti wall. Young people needing information, support or referral can speak to youth development workers at the centre from Monday to Friday between 10am-5pm.

However, no sporting equipment is available for loan and drop-in for Tuesday, Thursday and Saturdays will remain closed until further notice.

“I am sure many young people in our community will welcome the news that the Centre’s doors will reopen – even if it’s in a modified offering,’’ Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said.

“It will be good to see young people back and enjoying this space that’s dedicated to them. I just ask everyone to ensure they’re doing the right thing in terms of following social distancing requirements, looking after their personal hygiene, and staying at home if they’re feeling unwell.’’
