Seeking EOI for new Globe Lane public art project

Wednesday 28 July 2021

Are you, or do you know, an artist, sculptor or urban designer who is looking for their next job?

We’re calling for expressions of interest for the design, fabrication and installation of new creative signage and seating in Globe Lane, Wollongong.

This project serves both a creative and functional purpose. By using design elements such as signage, artworks and seating, creative wayfinding can be used to make Globe Lane welcoming and better connected to the rest of the Wollongong CBD.

“We’re planning for a post-COVID recovery and one of the ways we’re looking at achieving this is by offering opportunities for successful applicants to add vibrancy to the Wollongong CBD,” Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said.

“Our community has told us that they want the Wollongong CBD to feel more connected and Globe Lane is one of several key precincts that has been identified within our plans as an area for future, creative investment.

“Creative wayfinding such as signage, public artworks and seating are a solution to create spaces that are more inviting for people who are exploring our city’s unique offerings.”

Expression of interest applications close Sunday 29 August with construction expected to take place mid-2022. Find out more about this opportunity on our website.

“Globe Lane is a vibrant and growing destination thanks to the development of new businesses, events and activations,” Cr Bradbery said.

“Our aim is for the successful artist or designer to develop a creative wayfinding project that responds to the environment and surrounding businesses as well as enhancing the unique identity of the lane.”
