New playground coming soon to Wiseman Park

Our younger community members will soon have a new attraction to explore with the installation of a new playground at Gwynneville’s Wiseman Park.

In line with Council’s Infrastructure Delivery Program 2020-2021 and the Fairy Creek Corridor Masterplan, the playground at Wiseman Park will be replaced and relocated within the popular reserve. It will complement the new outdoor exercise equipment and accessible amenities.

The playground will feature a combination three seater nest swing and two metre high climbing cube as well as accessible soft fall surfacing and carousel. Following this, the old existing play facilities will be removed.

It is expected that the park will reopen with the new equipment at the start of July, depending on weather and other conditions.

Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said the ongoing works is part of Council’s commitment in supporting an active and healthy community.

“Over the past five months we’ve been replacing a number of playgrounds around Wollongong to ensure they are safe and accessible for our young families to visit,” Cr Bradbery said.

“We know our little ones enjoy spending time at our play spaces where they’re free to explore, challenge themselves and have fun. So, it’s important we’re continually maintaining these popular facilities, such as Wiseman Park, to support playtime.”

A contribution was made to the funding to this playground by the NSW State Government under the Community Building Partnerships grants program.

There are seven playgrounds remaining as part of Council’s Playground Renewal Program 2020-2021 and are anticipated to be completed by the end of June, weather permitting.
