Overflow car park for Bellambi boat ramp

Tuesday 1 June 2021

Bellambi overflow car park

We’re proposing a temporary overflow boat and trailer car park to service the popular Bellambi boat ramp and we’re seeking community feedback for the plan.

At peak periods the demand for parking spaces exceeds the capacity of the current boat and trailer car park. The proposed temporary overflow car park will be able to increase capacity at the popular spot and is planned to be located to the west of the current parking area.

The proposal is for a pedestrian and vehicle shared zone that will facilitate safer movement between the boat ramp and the overflow car park with visitors being encouraged to take care when manoeuvring vehicles and moving about the area.

“The temporary car park allows us to meet the demands for more parking near the Bellambi foreshore which is really growing in its popularity,” said Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM.

The long-term plan for this space will be determined by a Bellambi Foreshore Masterplan, which will enable Council and the community to plan for the future of the area, including parking needs.

“We have a beautiful coastline, and it’s important to our community that we provide a suitable place to park to ensure people can use this recreational space,’’ Cr Bradbery said.

”We will be developing a long-term plan for this site but we need a short-term option to manage its increasing popularity and to provide safe and equitable access. I encourage those with feedback to jump on Council’s website and share their comments.’’

The engagement is open until 18 June and feedback can be left online on the Our Wollongong website.
