Helping shape Greater Sydney

Have you ever wondered how Wollongong might help shape the future of Greater Sydney?

We’re partnering with Georges River Council to discuss the future growth of Greater Sydney and the role that regions such as Wollongong, Newcastle and the Central Coast can play, through an online event on Wednesday 27 October 2021.

The online event ‘Sydney Rediscovered – a metropolis of 5 cities’ will discuss a range of issues, including the impact the pandemic has had on the way people work, with people moving from capital cities to regional areas, and taking their work with them due to flexible working arrangements. This event will discuss the opportunities these issues present, including how Wollongong can contribute in the future to the growth of Sydney’s metropolis.

The free event is open to all local businesses and individuals interested in joining the conversation around how the future of Greater Sydney could be shaped, with Wollongong in mind.

Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said Council has a strong interest in increasing the role that Wollongong can play in growing Greater Sydney.

“For a long time, Wollongong has been the southern gateway to Sydney, but we have an occasion here to be recognised for our ongoing role in supporting the growth of Sydney itself and also the growth of our city,” he said.

“Wollongong is a place of opportunity, and an extremely liveable city. As a region, we continue to offer a great work life balance, a CBD home to global and national businesses, and transport connections to Sydney,

“The COVID-19 pandemic has provided an opportunity for us to rethink how we live, how we work and where we work. This event is a valuable opportunity to have a wide-ranging conversation about what we want for our future.”

Adam Zarth, Executive Director from Business Illawarra will also be participating in a panel discussion at the event.
