Local artists given grant funding boost

Thursday 23 April 2020

Wollongong creatives have an opportunity to apply for new funding grants which have been established to support them at this challenging time.

The one-off Creative Wollongong Quick Response Grants for arts and performance are valued at up to $1500.

The grants for Wollongong creatives support the development of new work in any media. They’re for performances and activities that can be shared with the public now, and in the future.

The grants include a digital sharing option so artists can offer an online performance or workshop that will be shared on a Council platform. There is also an option to receive an additional $500 and perform at a Council event within the following 24 months.

“We have a talented and passionate arts community here and we know these creative people are doing it tough right now,’’ Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said.

“We’re introducing this grant program as a way to acknowledge, and support, the vital contribution artists, musicians and performers make to our cultural landscape, and to assist in their creative processes.

“We all need to work together at this time to do our best to support the whole of our community. I have no doubt that there are some very creative people in Wollongong with some fantastic ideas who just need a financial leg up. These grants provide professional and emerging artists an opportunity to explore something new.’’

The first round of Creative Wollongong Quick Response Grants open on Thursday 23 April and close Wednesday 29 April. Funding rounds will occur fortnightly until the funds, a total of $30,000, have been allocated.
