Trees damaged in wild winds

Wednesday 20 April 2022

Following last night’s wild winds, we have damage to two significant trees in the city.

The first is one of the Norfolk Island Pines on Cliff Road. The Blue Mile is currently closed on the southern side of the Tramway cutting before it reopens near Cliff Road staircase that provides access to the Continental Pool. The Cliff Road Pine is particularly challenging as the broken top of the pine has fallen down the embankment towards the pathway and damaged some fencing in its fall. We’re working on a plan to remove the tree, and repair the fencing as soon as possible.

The second damaged tree is one of the Crown Street Mall’s Palms. The Palm, located near Church Street, is the one  “lying down”, and has suffered damage to its trunk. We are working with our expert arborists on the next steps for this tree.

We’re asking people to be cautious as they move along Cliff Parade and around the Palm in the Mall. We’re working to get both places tidied up as soon as possible.
