Green your garden with the final plant sale of 2021

Friday 3 December 2021

You don’t need to hear it through the grapevine, Wollongong Botanic Garden’s native plant sale is returning! And it’s just around the corner with the final sale of the year on Saturday 4 December from 7.30am to 2.30pm.

The Garden’s Greenplan Nursery has an extensive range of local trees, shrubs, ground covers and grasses that are indigenous to the Wollongong area, along with many other Australian Natives. These will be available for purchase on the day as well as worm farms and compost bins.

“The plant sales are popular among our residents with many looking to colour their greenspaces and gardens. So, we’re pleased we can safely run one sale to close out the year,” Wollongong City Council’s Manager Open Space and Environmental Services (Acting) Paul Tracey said.

“This is also a perfect opportunity to think about gifting a plant this holiday season, as this environmental-friendly gift will continue to give over many years to come.

“We will have qualified horticulturalists on hand to provide you with advice or answer any questions you may have on selecting the right plant for your gardens. It’s always important to choose carefully so the plant or tree can thrive in your home.”

Mr Tracey said while Gardens staff were looking forward to people returning for the plant sales, it was essential people continued to follow COVID-safe practices and the NSW Public Health Order when at our nursery.

“We will have the site set up as a COVID-safe event and importantly will have a limit on the number of customers within the Nursery at any one time, so we thank our community in advance for their patience as we get everyone through. We have plenty of plants available, so you don’t need to arrive right at opening time, which is usually our busiest period. To avoid the rush, come along later in the day.”

Visitors will need to sign-in with the QR code, socially distance yourself from others and wear a mask when you can’t maintain it. If someone is feeling unwell, they should get tested and stay home. Contactless card payments preferred (no cash). This is a ratepayer subsided service, so a current Wollongong City Council rates notice is required on the day as proof of residency.

The sale also coincides on the same day of the 2021 Local Government elections. Make sure you don’t miss your chance to vote after or before picking up your native plants!

The Nursery is located at 65 Northfields Avenue, Keiraville. Parking is available on site and the entrance will be marked with bright flags on the day.
