Uncover a love for our libraries this Valentine’s Day

Friday 14 February 2020

Wollongong City Council has reinvigorated its library website, launching a new look site on Library Lovers’ Day which is also Valentine’s Day.

This year’s Library Lovers Day theme is titled “Uncover something new” and the development of a fresh look for the library website has allowed Council to learn how the site can best work for our community. The site has been developed in consultation with the community and it’s anticipated the new look will be a popular one, designed to be more accessible for all, and simpler and easier to find what you need – on your PC, laptop, tablet or phone.

Our seven city libraries receive more than one million visits each year and there are more than 230,000 visits to our library website.

Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said more than ever our community is turning to the internet for information.

“Our libraries used to be the primary port of call for school projects or community history, so it is essential that our library website keeps with the times and acts as a conduit for searching local information and access to traditional library services such as book renewal and requests.”

There is an amazing range of books, magazines, and DVDs available from our libraries, and you can also download eBooks and eAudiobooks, learn a language through Mango or stream a movie through Kanopy.

“Our libraries are a real space for connecting and helping others, with access to information and help on a range of community services available in person and online.”

“If you haven’t stepped inside one of our libraries, I encourage you to come for a visit, celebrate Library Lovers’ Day and uncover something new. A love of reading is a gift for life and is something that everyone in our community has a right to experience and enjoy.”
