Reminder! Artist Studio opportunities open for EOIs

Friday 21 January 2022

It’s not too late to apply for an affordable studio space at the newly refurbished Creative Wollongong Studios or Wollongong Youth Services.

Expressions of interest are now open for local artists, as well as young and emerging creatives to apply for a 12-month Artist Studio opportunity. There are six Creative Wollongong Studio opportunities on offer to local artists over 18 years, and one Youth Services Residency open to people aged 18-24 years.

“If you’re an artist or creative, this is a great opportunity to access an affordable studio space to grow and develop your professional and creative skills,” Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said.

“We recognise that COVID-19 has had a major impact on all members of our community, including our creative community who may have lost business and gigs over the past year. As a result, Council is aiming to support our local artists through a heavily subsidised studio space in the heart of Wollongong.”

The Artist Studio program will offer opportunities for artists and creatives to collaborate and network with others as well as engage with the broader community through open studio tours, artist talks, and skill development opportunities.

“Council is also offering a Wollongong Youth Services’ Artist in Residence program. This opportunity will give the successful young person access to a studio, exhibition space and art supplies,” Cr Bradbery said.

“This is a big opportunity for any young artist who wishes to build experience and learn from mentors as they develop their studio practice.”

Successful applicants will be assessed based on merit and interview. For the selection criteria and information on how to apply visit our website.

Studios will be available from March 2022. Applications are open until midnight Sunday 30 January 2022.
