Council services update 8 July

Thursday 8 July 2021

Wollongong City Council is continuing to deliver COVID-safe services to our community.

Following the announcement that current restrictions, including the stay at home direction, would be extended until 11.59pm on Friday 16 July, many of Council’s facilities and services will remain closed. This includes our libraries, leisure centres, administration building, art gallery, community centres and youth centre.

Where possible, we encourage people to take advantage of our online services to stay in touch during this time. You can report local issues and make requests through Council’s website.

Our libraries also offer a range of online resources, including eBooks, eAudiobooks, and movie streaming for people looking for entertainment from the comfort of their own homes.

Council’s open spaces, including Wollongong Botanic Garden, remain available for outdoor exercise in line with NSW guidelines for outdoor gatherings. Competition golf will also restart at The Vale Golf Course at Russell Vale from Thursday 8 July; bookings for recreational or competition play are essential.

Household waste and recycling collections are also continuing, and our Waste Depot is open for essential waste.

Council is also encouraging anyone in Port Kembla and surrounding suburbs to get tested immediately for COVID-19 if they have symptoms. Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District have reported that fragments of the virus that causes COVID have been detected in the Port Kembla sewage treatment system, and a new pop-up drive-through testing clinic has been set up at Port Kembla Pool.

Council would like to thank the Wollongong community for their support during this challenging time, and for following Public Health Orders.

We will continue to provide updates on Council’s facilities, services and programs through our Coronavirus Updates page.
