Call for Wollongong artists to sing a different tune

Friday 4 June 2021

We’re searching for nine New Gen artists to create original music inspired by global sounds.

Council is working with Jam n Bread to commission nine local artists, between the ages of 16-30 years, to create a new music composition influenced by Wollongong’s multicultural diversity and inspired by culturally diverse musicians.

Successful applicants will receive a $200 fee, two mentoring sessions with an experienced musician or producer, access to a professional studio session, opportunities to collaborate with Wollongong-based musicians from culturally diverse backgrounds, promotion of their work, and the opportunity to be paid to perform at Viva la Gong.

Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said this was an exciting opportunity for up and coming musicians and bands in the Wollongong region.

“We’re proud of Wollongong’s unique cultural identity and we recognise the value that local creatives, including musicians, bring to our communities,” said Cr Bradbery.

“The New Gen Music Commissions project is an opportunity for Council to support and nurture young and emerging musicians to achieve positive outcomes for the broader community as well as continue to support our city’s arts and entertainment industry.”

The New Gen Music Commissions is open to people aged 16 – 30 years who live in the Wollongong City Council area.

Applications close on Tuesday 15 June 2021. For more information on how to apply, visit the New Gen Music Commissions webpage.
