City of Wollongong

New Brand for Business Attraction

Wednesday 23 October 2019

Invest Wollongong was launched with a clear mission: to make Wollongong known domestically and internationally as a superior business location.

Invest Wollongong is the new name for the decade old Advantage Wollongong program, a partnership between the NSW Government, Wollongong City Council and the University of Wollongong (UOW).  Building on the work of its predecessor, Invest Wollongong has a strong focus on highlighting the many benefits of locating a business in Wollongong.

As part of the launch, the Invest Wollongong Stakeholder Program was also announced. The program is an opportunity for Wollongong’s diverse business community to support Invest Wollongong and contribute to attracting more like-minded businesses and individuals to the city. Free to join, businesses who participate in the program will be given the information and support needed to deliver the positive Wollongong message across their networks. For example, Stakeholders will receive a quarterly Invest Wollongong e-newsletter, to keep them up-to-date on the latest activities, and have access to Invest Wollongong collateral for distribution.

“Invest Wollongong is a way for people to reach out and share the great things Wollongong has to offer. By working collaboratively, we increase the likelihood of achieving our collective goal to attract new jobs and investment to Wollongong,” said Nigel McKinnon, Deputy Director, Regional NSW Group.

“We know that many local businesses have found Wollongong to be a place for them to thrive, acknowledging the benefits and opportunities our vibrant coastal city has to offer. This is why we developed the Invest Wollongong Stakeholder Program. The program is the next logical step engaging  passionate local stakeholders to come with us on the next phase of the journey to sell that message in a more formal, structured and intentional program. In other words, we are now mobilising the passion and taking it to the next level,” said Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM.

“The Stakeholder Program is a great way for the local community to help us spread the positive message of Wollongong. We know it is a great place to operate a business and achieve a real work/life balance. We need local support to help get this message out,” said Jonas Marcelo, Manger, Commercial Leasing & Business Development at the University of Wollongong.

As well as the Stakeholder Program, a new website has also been launched. The website has a range of information on setting up a business in Wollongong as well as case studies on thriving businesses across a variety of sectors who have established here.
