Build your business with Council

Thursday 22 October 2020

Are you looking to understand how to do business with Wollongong City Council?

Locally, Council is a major procurement contractor and we’re holding a free live stream event to help local business learn more about the upcoming opportunities regarding supplying goods and services contracts for the city.

The live workshop is open to all local businesses interested in supplying and working with Council. The session will cover short and longer-term opportunities, procurement policy and processes and WHS compliance and prequalification.

Wollongong City Council’s Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said the workshop is great opportunity for local organisations to understand how to do business with Council.

“Council works with a broad range of businesses, and contracts for building and construction, professional services, goods, and maintenance are all necessary to help run our city,” he said.

“This workshop is an opportunity for those outside Council to understand the thinking so to speak, on the organisation and to get a better grasp of how we do business and what we’re looking for from the market.’’

Council is a major procurement contractor within the Wollongong economy, and our Infrastructure Delivery Program is worth $800m over the next four years. Council has also recently changed its Sustainable Procurement Policy to increase the ‘local content’ weighting given to local businesses when submitting for tenders and formal quotations. Together these factors offer significant opportunities for local businesses looking to contract with Council.

“We want to assist in making it easier for local businesses to support and employ local people and to work in their local area. This workshop helps highlight those opportunities for everyone,” Cr Bradbery said.

The local procurement workshop ‘How to do business with Wollongong City Council’ will be an online event on Wednesday 28 October from 3.30-5.00pm. Registration for the event is essential and free tickets are available on Wollongong City Council’s Eventbrite page.
