Port Kembla Pool amenities upgrade

Wednesday 21 October 2020

Port Kembla Beach and Pool amenities are due for an access upgrade. That’s why we’re proposing a new Accessible Adult Change Facility.

The planned upgrades to these amenities are in line with Council’s Beach and Foreshore Access Strategy and will include an adult lift and change table and hoist to assist people with high support needs and their carers to better enjoy their time at the pool and beach.

Funding has been provided by the Australian Government Local Roads & Community Infrastructure Fund.

Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said that the Port Kembla Beach and Pool Amenities upgrade would provide greater access for everyone who uses the pool and beach.

“We want to make Wollongong a better place to live and visit for everyone. The planned upgrades to the Port Kembla amenities is just one part of Council’s ongoing commitment to create liveable communities as part of our Disability Inclusion Action Plan.

“The planned works will have some impact on the existing change facilities. Although all the current facilities at Port Kembla Pool will remain, we will need some of the space now used in the men’s changing area for the new Accessible Adult Change Facility.”

To minimise the construction impact on people, works are scheduled to take place during winter 2021.

You can find out more about the project and submit feedback by visiting the Our Wollongong website. Feedback will be accepted until 2 November 2020.
