Reminder to plan your week ahead

Sunday 18 September 2022

Monday is just around the corner, but the week ahead is going to be very different from the usual!

The UCI Road World Championships has officially kicked off today and will be on until Sunday 25 September. It’s an exciting time for Wollongong and as we gear up for a unique week, we’re reminding residents to plan how you’ll get around the city, what your public transport or parking options are as well as bin collections.

City Centre

The city centre is open for business – even if you’re not coming in to watch the race or soak up the atmosphere. If you’re headed in just remember there’ll be changes to traffic and parking that vary each day. Visit our Parking in the City Centre page for more details.

There is also public transport options to get around Wollongong. Transport for NSW have amended routes and varied options to help the community and visitors get around, including the shuttle buses and park and ride options. Check out their website for more information and to plan your trip.

Crossing the road

If you’re out and about cheering on the athletes or are near the race course in your area, please use the existing pedestrian crossings. This will help keep you, racers and everyone safe. If you’re unsure on how to get across, you can ask one of the course officials where the safest spot to cross is. They should be easy to spot in their uniforms.

Road closures

In terms of road closures across our city. Roads should be open for 'local traffic only' until it’s road closure time. You can find all road closure information on Wollongong 2022’s page.

If you’re in doubt, please ask the traffic controller nearby the signs. And if you notice the signs are incorrect or roads are closing early, please let us know.

Bins

Don’t forget to put your bins out the evening before your collection day this week. Residents that have their bin collection days changed have been notified and are reminded to take note of this change. Maps of impacted areas and details of changes are also available on Council’s website.

If you miss the collection day for any reason, or if there is an issue with your collection on your collection day, call Remondis Harbour Cities Team and they will come back to collect your bin as soon as they can.
