Parking in the City Centre

Check the signs for rules that apply to wherever you’re parking.

Make sure you also follow the NSW road rules when driving and parking.

Many on-street parking spaces in Wollongong’s centre have time limits during the day, and parking fees may apply. Check signs for details.

You can pay for on-street parking at parking meters or with the CellOPark app.

All on-street parking is free at the following times:

  • Before 8.30am and after 4.30pm on weekdays
  • On weekends. Time limits apply on Saturdays between 8.30am and 12.30pm.
  • On public holidays.

Our city centre has several off-street car parks. Some are provided by Council, and others are run by shopping centres or private businesses.

In Council’s off-street carparks, fees and time limits apply on weekdays. Payment can be made at parking meters or with the CellOPark app.

Parking in Council’s off-street metered car parks is free and untimed at the following times:

  • Before 8.30am and after 4.30pm on weekdays
  • On weekends
  • On public holidays.

Parking meters are used for many on-street and off-street parking spaces in our city centre. These are also called ‘Pay and Display Machines’.

If street signs have the word ‘ticket’ on them, pay at the nearest parking meter with cash or credit card, or use the CellOPark app. Fees only apply during times shown on the signs.

After paying at a parking meter, leave your printed ticket face up on your dashboard.

What do do if a parking meter isn’t working

If a parking meter isn’t working, call the Parking Meter Fault Line on 1300 994 392.

You should purchase a ticket from the next nearest working meter.

If you have paid twice because of a faulty meter, you can get the cost of the second ticket refunded if you reported the fault. Fill in a Parking Meter Refund Request Form PDF, 32.47 KB and bring it to our Customer Service Centre at 41 Burelli Street, Wollongong, with the original ticket.

Council has several off-street car spaces in the city centre that are licenced for people to use on weekdays between 6am and 5pm. Outside those times, these spaces can be used by the general public for free.

Car spaces are only licenced to individuals, not to companies.

Licenced car parks are at the following locations in Wollongong:

  • Auburn Street
  • Belmore Street
  • George Street
  • Keira Street
  • Rawson Street
  • Thomas Street
  • Victoria Street.

You can apply to go on the waiting list for a licenced parking space using the button below. Please note, some car parks have very long waiting lists and may not currently be accepting applications. Only car parks with open waiting lists will be shown on the form.
