Last month, we have handed over the keys and we welcomed the City of Wollongong’s newest artists in residence to the Creative Wollongong Studios.

Local artists Tim Baker, Haji Oh, Virginia Keft, Matthew Grayson, Rhiannon Pegler and Michelle Heldon will be able to grow their skills and portfolio in dedicated creative spaces located in the heart of Wollongong.

The residencies run for 12 months, and participating artists will also have the opportunity to join in open studio tours, workshops, artist talks, skills development opportunities and other events.

“This year, we received a high number and calibre of applications for the Creative Studios program from local artists,” Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said.

“It’s a real pleasure to be able to support six emerging artists and provide them access to a dedicated workshop space where they can practice their art and develop their skills.

“Plus, our community have told us that they value living in a creative and vibrant city. Residencies like this one, are one of the ways we can achieve this as we can provide a positive opportunity for emerging or established artists who need space to further develop their work.

“Congratulations to all our successful artists. On behalf of the City of Wollongong, we look forward to seeing what creative endeavours this opportunity will help facilitate.”
