From the Lord Mayor's Office
Congratulations on King's Birthday Honours
It was fantastic to see a number of people from Wollongong recognised in the King's Birthday Honours list.
People that have contributed so much through their dedication, hard work and achievements in their chosen field.
Congratulations to Professor Kate Curtis AO who became an Officer of the Order of Australia for distinguished service to trauma and emergency nursing and to Bruce Gordon AO who received this honour for his distinguished service to the media and television industries, and as a benefactor for sports and the arts.
There were nine others from Wollongong awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia that now have an OAM after their name in recognition of their service and outstanding contribution: Mr Vincent Crawley, the late Mr Gerald Doyle, Ms Deborah Hutton, Mr Brian Jackson, Mr Kennith Kitching, Mr John McAlary, Mr Arnold Thurling, Mr Paul Tuckerman, and Professor Sandra Wills. Congratulations also to Mr Ashley Sulliven who received the Emergency Service Medal.
It’s really important that we recognise and celebrate the outstanding achievements and contributions of people in our community. The Office of Governor General website provides information on how you can nominate someone for an Australian Honour and Award, so please have think about putting someone forward.
Personally, I’d love to see more women in future honours lists to reflect the amazing contribution that so many women make at a local, national and international level.
Council will also be calling for nominations for the City of Wollongong Awards later this year so please consider putting an individual or organisation forward when nominations open.
