Thursday 15 April 2021 (& mid week groups of 10 max. by prior arrangement), Book in. Limited to 10 at once.

Rixons Pass was the first gateway road to the Northern Illawarra, down the mountain from Bulli Mountain later known as the Lost Village of Sherbrooke, Appin, Campbelltown and Sydney. Developed in the 1850’s by the legendary Tracker Benjamin Rixon, who lies in St Augustines Anglican Cemetery Bulli. Some of today’s Seniors mention riding, driving and walking up Rixons Pass – once it was the road for Hill Climb and Motor Cycle competitions, of legal and sometimes illegal walks up into the bush. Now it is a No Through Road.

View our photographic “Memory Wall – Faces of Rixons Pass”. Some of Rixons Pass people had been emancipated convicts or their descendants, others as Bounty assisted immigrants, others lived in huts in the bush, and others had been forced out of the Lost Village of Sherbrooke.

We welcome information, stories, documents and photographs of Rixons Pass and its people. They will add to the Museum’s One Place Study of the Woonona District.
